Imposter Syndrome-FB Live Prayer video 4/3/25

Imposter syndrome

Mark 11 CSB

13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree with leaves, he went to find out if there was anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for it was not the season for figs. 14 He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!”

Skip down to VS. 20

20 Early in the morning, as they were passing by, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots up.

Jesus cursed the fig tree because it did not produce the fruit He was looking for, although it appeared to have fruit.

This is symbolic of spiritual barrenness of God’s people.

Things are not always what they look like. We are plagued with imposters.

We appear to be spiritually fruitful

·         Check the boxes

·         Go to church

·         Pay tithes

·         Serve in ministry

*I almost listed prayer and bible study, but I have a hard time believing if imposters were really prayer and studying the word, with any amount of sincerity, in their private time that would naturally cause them to be transformed and bare good fruits, avoiding imposter syndrome.

It looks good from a distance, but where are the fruits?

Galatians 5

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, and self-control.

If these fruits are not evident, don’t trust the source.

You ever witness a mean mugging saint? No love, no joy, looks miserable, gossiping about everyone, nothing nice to say, picks and chooses who they want to love or befriend, spreads negativity…DON’T TRUST THE SOURCE! THAT AIN’T IT! THAT’S AN IMPOSTER!

This type of imposter has been normalized in the church!

We are walking around with fake fruits trying to impress people while God is cursing us down to the roots!

There is no shame in falling short, needing to get straight, being far from perfect, that is something that God can work with, but what’s dangerous trying to fool yourself and/or everyone else and ignoring sin, ignoring brokenness, ignoring unforgiveness, ignoring a fruitless life while claiming to be a believer. That being the example that the world sees as the church and wants nothing to do with it! Why would they, when it doesn’t look much different from what they already know?! Worse, they jump on the bandwagon and become an imposter too, never knowing this is NOT God wills for His church and there is so much more He intends for His people!

Be bold! Address the issues, while we have the mercy of time! Don’t find yourself cursed by God!

Personal story of deliverance. I didn’t want to ever have to go through that! What I witnessed as the act of deliverance was something that I was afraid of going through for myself! I would fool myself into believing that I was free and didn’t need to have a personal deliverance experience, but in reality, I could not grow and mature until I did!

Now, I beg God to break me over and over again and humble me to my lowest, often, God forbid I ever be an imposter. It could happen to anyone. No shame, just deal with it.
